Michelle Ringgold - Artist Statement
My early introduction to art was through my grandmother, whose paintings decorated our home. I was born in Washington, DC, and had the good fortune to spend countless hours exploring the National Gallery of Art and other national museums. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for the last seventeen years, many of which perched on a hillside above the trees, and the expansive views have influenced my artistic eye and the perspective in which I create. The airy quality and rhythmic movement of my "floral/whimsical" work expresses this, and I love to play with colors and shapes that appear to float while still bringing harmony to each piece. My new work is meditative in nature and stems from my interest in Yoga, Buddhist teachings and Asian culture and art.
My art is created on the computer by combining shapes, objects, textures and colors, I see them as digital collages. I strive to bring beauty to my work in hopes of inspiring others during these challenging times for our society and the world at large.
I received my degree in web design at Shoreline Community College. I am the Art Director for a company in Redmond, Washington. Contact - info@ringgolddesign.com
